It is a fully-owned subsidiary of Qantas and was established as a countermeasure to competitive airlines. With Qantas Airways serving the premium full-service market and Jetstar taking the low-cost market, Qantas has mastered the two-brand strategy profitably.
Jetstar transports nearly 8.5% of all travellers entering and leaving Australia. From its primary base at Melbourne Airport, the airline runs a vast domestic network in addition to regional and international services.
